My Profession, My Passion
It’s a common to hear people say “chase your dreams” or “do what your heart is telling you”, but in most cases they use this to refer to love or life based decisions. Have you ever imagined applying it to business? Well, we take a word guided tour into ‘Glam ‘n’ Charm’, a business built off of the owner’s passion for fashion.
Glam ‘n’ Charm, founded by a young lady named Mwape Martha Kalambo is a style and beauty business that is mainly centered on manicures, pedicures, makeup and hair plaiting and styling but is also spreading out into boutique by supplying imported clothes, shoes, bags and accessories as well as doing custom made outfits especially out of chitenge.
Mwape’s love for beauty, style and fashion inspired her to start a business that aims at bringing out the inner glow in everyone by enhancing their outward appearance. Though most of her skills she learnt by herself overtime by doing online tutorials and crash courses, one specific skill she treasures is that of making custom made outfits because she learnt it from her mother who is a tailor. She expresses how happy it makes her to see someone feel good because they look good.
Glam ‘n’ Charm prides itself in good customer service as it strives to fill the unique needs and wants of each customer effectively and efficiently. It tries to encompass a kind and welcoming attitude to all customers while ensuring that the products and services cater for a wide range of clients be it children, adults , men, women, dark or light skin, slim or plus size. Its good services at very competitive prices are more or less a give-away to its clients. Now as fabulous as it may sound, Glam ‘n’ Charm is only in its initial growing stages so its operations are not always as smooth as intended as its still trying to build a solid clientele that can ensue it a continuous flow of business.
“People say business in the fashion and beauty industry is not easy and viable, but well, business in general is not easy, without the drive to work hard, one could be in the most profitable business industry but still not be successful because they had no passion and drive for it. Starting, building and keeping Glam ‘n’ Charm running hasn’t been a stroll in a rosy garden but I have enjoyed every step of the way. I have celebrated every little milestone and achievement and learnt from every mistake or set back.” says Mwape. She encourages young people out there to use their passions as a drive for business. After all, if you are good at something why not make money from it. At least you will be killing two birds with one stone – doing what you love and making money.
